Have you ever seen a fire rainbow? We hadn’t until last week on St. Regis Lake. A fire rainbow, or circumhorizontal arc, is formed by a halo of ice crystals in high level cirrus clouds when the sun is high in the sky. Because the setting has to be just right, this is considered a rare phenomenon. It is a sight like this that makes us appreciate the beauty of this Park even more.
We watched in amazement as the fire rainbow started to appear, at first in small patches, but then covering the extent of the panoramic.
Has anyone else ever seen a fire rainbow??
