Blue Mountain Lake

Hamilton County, Blue Mountain Lake, NY

Overview

Blue Mountain Lake has bountiful populations of fish and is great for all types of anglers. the lake is located between the Blue Ridge Wilderness and Blue Mountain Wild Forest.

Blue Mountain Lake is one of the best fishing spots in New York for large lake trout. Lakers can reach 10 to 20 pounds in size and the best place is the deep water adjacent to the islands. You can also find landlocked salmon and small bouth in the lake.

Trolling is not recommended because of the irregular depths. Drifting baitfish in deep holes is the prefered method to lure out fish. Minnow-imitation plugs and smelt-imitation streamers produces great results for landlocked salmon. You can find smallmouth bass along the rock shoals, especially in the southwest corner near the outlet.

Anglers can access Blue Mountain Lake  through two private lunches with a small fee in the village of Blue Mountain Lake.
