Cranberry Lake will offer great fishing for brook trout and smallmouth bass in St. Lawrence County.
Every year the DEC stocks Cranberry Lake with 20,000 brook trout and a large number of brown trout. The best time of the year is during the spring months at the mouths of various creeks and brooks.
Smallmouth bass can be caught during the summer around the rocky areas. Successful techniques include drifting with life minnows, trolling minnow plugs, or casting in-line spinners, small crankbaits, or tipped jiggs. The evening hours are prime time fishing hours.
High numbers of stocked browns and brookies will be found at the Oswegatchie River at the lake's outlet.
Anglers can gain access to the lake at state launch, campground, and hadicap-asccessible fishing pier. Car-top boaters can also launch near Wanakena.
