Anglers that travel through the Five Ponds Wilderness area can find brook trout in it's scattered bodies of water.
Five Ponds Wildereness is an area in the northwest corner of Herkimer County. Some of the ponds that have been stocked with brook trout are: Cowhorn, Darning Needle, Fishpole, Glasby, Nicks, Olmstead, Simmons, and Spectacle.
A great location in the area for brook trout is the uppermost section of the Oswegatchie River. Canoeists will have the best chance of landing any brookies.
Anglers need to be willing to hike and carry inflatable rafts through the wildereness to reach some of the fishing locations.
There are also 14 lean-tos you can camp in.
