Lake Bonaparte

Lewis County, NY

Overview

Lake Bonaparte sees heavy recreational use in the summer, but is a great fishing spot for anglers in Lewis County.

Anglers in Lake Bonaparte will find plenty of trophy bass, pike and brown trout. The lake holds smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, northernpikepanfish, brown trout, and lake trout. The best smallmouth spots are the rocky islands and mid-lake shoals marked by buoys. Largemouths and pike can be caught in the weedlines and openings in weedbeds.

Trout anglers in the spring and fall have the best luck trolling minnow plugs or spoons at Sand Bay, Round Island, Benton Point, Bullrock Point, High Rock, the open water between Rock and Birch islands, and ope water area between Birch and Sister islands.

Boaters can access the lake at the state launch at Sandy Bay. Private marinas are also available for larger boats too.
