Lake Placid has continuously produced large wild fish and state record breaking lake trout.
Lake Placid offers great quality fishing for anglers looking for lake trout and rainbow trout. The lake has produced many trophy size wild fish, and in 1986 an angler caught a state record breaking lake trout weighing 32 pounds. Lake trout can be found in the deep sections of the lake where anglers troll offerings slowly near the bottom. The rainbow trout will be found in the shallower areas, and use a moderate trolling speed.
The rock shoals will have a decent number of smallmouth bass.
There is a paved DEC launch at the lake's southern end in the village of Lake Placid.
