Rainbow Falls consists of 150 feet of cascades, which fill the gorge with a constant mist, providing ideal conditions for spotting rainbows on sunny days.
The falls is located along the East Branch of the Ausable River at Lower Ausable Lake. The frozen falls are also a spectacular sight in winter.
Rainbow Falls is close enough to Beaver Meadow Falls that both can be seen in one day.
From Lake Placid, travel on Route 73 and head toward Keene. Travel through Keene and Keene Valley, and locate Ausable Club Road in Saint Huberts. It will be on your right opposite the Roaring Brook Falls Trail road and will take you to the Adirondack Mountain Reserve access point.
The hike to the falls is 9.4 miles round-trip, but the last mile is the most difficult. Inexperienced hikers and those with young children should take extra caution here.
