Although it has a scary name, Scarface is a fun and excellent day hike and a member of the Saranac Lake 6er Challenge.

Scarface Mountain
This 3.6 mile hike is sometimes very steep. There will be an open forest with railroad tracks you will cross. You will see Ray Brook, a great fishing spot. Once you cross the bridge over the brook, the trail is moderate through a pine forest. When the trail splits, take the left trail, which will begin climbing steeper and the terrain becomes more difficult. There will be slightly wet conditions, but the terrain mellows out near the true summit. There are beautiful open views before the summit, but many hikers stop at this beautiful landing. With a 6.6 mile round trip, this hike usually takes between 3 and 4 hours to hike.
GETTING THERE:
From the intersection of Route 3 and Route 86 in Saranac Lake take Route 86 toward Lake Placid. Enter Ray Brook, then take a right onto Ray Brook Road and continue for a 10th of a mile to the trailhead on the left.
