One of the rewards of the Shelving Rock hike is this spectacular waterfall on the east side of Lake George.
The 50-foot cascade can be accessed by an easy hike that is great for families. There are also a number of geocaches in the area that keep the trek entertaining.
Take Exit 20 from I-87, turn left onto Route 9, then turn right on Route 149 after passing the outlet malls. Stay on 149 until reaching Buttermilk Falls Road, approximately 5.7 miles up on your left.
Stay on Buttermilk Falls Road (which becomes Sly Pond road, then Shelving Rock Road) for 11 miles until reaching the Hog Town Parking Lot. Before you enter the lot, take a left in front of the signs, and follow this road until reaching a bridge. You can choose to park either before or after the bridge. Note: There are nine designated parking areas in the Shelving Rock Area, and parking is not allowed on the sides of Shelving Rock Road.
The falls is also accessible by boat. Leave your boat in Log Bay, then follow the path that starts in the northern end of the bay. A 15 minute walk will bring you to Shelving Rock Falls.
