I haven’t had a chance to do much ice fishing yet this winter, and a lot of that has to do with the lack of ice. The smaller lakes in the area had enough ice last weekend, and I was out of town. Have any of you been having luck fishing through the ice this year?
I went to South Bay a couple weeks ago, it was my first time out this season. We caught a Northern Pike in about 20 feet of water, but didn’t have much luck for the rest of the day.
I would like to get up north a little ways and try some of those lakes this weekend (if there is still safe ice). Does anyone know the conditions up at the northern end of Lake George? I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t any ice left on any of the bays up in Ticonderoga or Hague.
What about some of the other, smaller lakes up there? I used to fish Brant Lake quite often when I was younger. We used to park on the west shore of lake, next to the cliffs. I’m pretty sure parking is prohibited there now, so if there is good ice up there, where do you park? From what I remember, we used to catch trout at the north end of the lake and perch at the south end.
How about Schroon Lake? I’ve seen people fishing up there before, but have never tried it myself.
I would like to be fishing for trout, Rainbows and Browns, or perch.. or both. If any of you readers have any suggestions as to where to find good ice this weekend, please let me know.. I’m itching to get back out!
