Last week, a $4.4 million investment was announced by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to deploy 325 electric vehicle charging stations across New York State. The funds will be awarded to ten companies, municipalities and other entities to create jobs, lower fossil fuels and cut toxic emissions.
The investment in New York State is supported by a joint effort by NYSERDA (New York Energy Research and Development Authority) Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Demonstration Program and The United States Department of Energy.
The investment in New York States is best stated by Governor Cuomo, “Creating an infrastructure to accommodate electric vehicles will create jobs and new economic development across the state, while reducing our carbon footprint and helping protect the environment.”
Some of the electric vehicle charging stations includes the following:
- installation of electric vehicle charging stations at seven locations around the Albany area (St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany-Rensselaer Train Station, Times Union Center, universities and supermarkets)
- installation of 28 electric vehicle charging stations, each in a separate public garage around Manhattan
- installation of 24 electric vehicle charging stations at seven locations around the City of Rochester
- installation of electric vehicle charging stations at five Marriott hotels and installation of electric vehicle charging stations at three apartment complexes in Albany, Rochester and Buffalo
I really think this initiative can be a step forward to a more sustainable park. I hope the installation of electric vehicle charging stations will include several areas in the central and Northern Adirondacks where job creation and development of business is most needed.
So I ask you, would an electric vehicle charging station be beneficial in your next of the woods?
