About this event
Join a seed sowing workshop led by two horticulture experts and help the ADK Garden club in their work to tackle invasives and plant native species in the Essex Quarry Nature Preserve, owned by CATS.
In 2024, the garden club sowed over 700 seeds and transplanted them in the Essex Quarry Nature Preserve. This year we hope to be just as successful with ephemerals, sedges and more perennials such as Hepatica, bloodroot, False Solomon’s Seal, red columbine, Meadow Rue, red baneberry, 4 goldenrods, 7 asters, Joe Pye Weed, beggarsticks, thimbleweed, yarrow, and many others. We plan to sow these seeds in milk jugs and 4-inch pots at our February 7 workshop, and then leave them out in the snow to cold-stratify. After the seeds germinate in the spring, we’ll plant the seedlings at the quarry. This is an incredibly easy and inexpensive way to sow seeds and have plantings in huge areas. Come join us and learn how with hands-on activity.
