Lake Placid Gets a Taste of Prison City Pub & Brewery

Calling all craft beer lovers visiting the Adirondacks this summer! A refreshing new option is on its way to quench your thirst. Central New York's Prison City Pub & Brewery is setting up shop in Lake Placid, bringing their award-winning beers to 2577 Main Street, the former location of Bear Essentials Apparel.

The new taproom, conveniently close to the Lake Placid Olympic Complex, is slated to open early this summer.

This new Lake Placid location holds special significance for Prison City's co-owners, Dawn and Marc Schulz. The couple not only met but also lived in Lake Placid for many years.

"We've been wanting to get back to Lake Placid for over two decades," Marc said, expressing their excitement about the new venture. "This is a dream come true."

Prison City ADK will offer a selection of beers brewed at their North Street facility in Auburn, alongside local wines and ciders. To complement the drinks, they'll have a menu of light snacks, including their famous soft pretzels, charcuterie boards featuring local ingredients, and grab-and-go food items.

With a proven track record of award-winning beers and a passion for their new location, Prison City Pub & Brewery is poised to become a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike in Lake Placid.

Capture Your Love for New York's Outdoors in a New Photo Contest

New York State is encouraging residents to celebrate their love for the outdoors and responsible land use with a new photo contest. The "Love Our New York Lands" contest kicks off this month with a theme focused on Pride Month.

This contest will feature five different themes throughout the summer and fall, with winning photos used in promotional materials to showcase safe and responsible enjoyment of state parks and lands.

For the month of June, the theme is "Pride." Photographers are encouraged to capture images that represent New York's natural beauty and the welcoming atmosphere of state lands.

Submissions should highlight a color from the rainbow Pride flag and be emailed by June 30th to social@dec.ny.gov with the subject line “LONYL Photo Contest." Please include your name, DEC land where the photo was taken (if applicable), and your Instagram/social media handle.

Winners will be chosen based on originality, composition, technical quality, and how well the photo portrays safe and responsible outdoor activities.

This contest is a great way to celebrate the outdoors and the importance of protecting these shared spaces for all New Yorkers. Get outside, capture your love for nature, and you might even see your photo featured in a future DEC campaign!

Experts Predict a Muddy, Wet & Warm Summer

Adirondack Almanack reports that scientists are predicting above-average temperatures and precipitation for summer 2024 in the Park, which means muddy trails for hikers. 

Specifically, there is a 99% chance that 2024 will be among the five hottest years on record, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Ticonderoga's downtown is getting a delicious makeover thanks to Ticonderoga Bagel and Coffee, a new shop offering homemade bagels and fresh roasted coffee. Owner Drew Metzler, following what he believes was a divine calling, has transformed a condemned building into a vibrant community hub.

Metzler isn't just passionate about revitalizing the neighborhood; he cares about his food. Every day, he handcrafts bagels from scratch, offering a variety of flavors alongside muffins and pastries. He even experiments with unique offerings, like his popular egg bagels and jalapeno cream cheese.

This dedication to quality and customer preference is core to Ticonderoga Bagel and Coffee's mission. They're constantly evolving their menu based on what the community wants.

"We are a mom and pop shop with two devoted people who are very happy to be here in Ti," says Metzler.
